Neuer Bau stands in Ulm as a Renaissance building with an irregular pentagonal shape and visible brick walls. Built between 1584 and 1593, it originally stored grain, with rows of dormer windows providing ventilation.

The inner courtyard adds painted quoining and the Hildegard Fountain, created by Claus Bauhofer in 1591. The building later hosted meetings of the Swabian Circle, a richly panelled Renaissance room, a prison and a registry office. A fire damaged major sections in 1924, restoration followed by 1927, and bombing caused further damage in 1944 before postwar repairs. Today, Ulm Police Headquarters occupies the building.

The fountain preserves a link to the site’s earlier use as a royal court, while the dormer windows still reveal its practical beginnings as a grain store.
