Büchsenstadel stands in Ulm as a fifteenth-century warehouse built for the Imperial City. Its storeys once held salt and grain. Built in 1485, the building became an armoury in 1592. Stone cannonballs remain embedded in its western facade. Exposed timber framing marks the upper floors, while brick gables carry late Gothic ogee-arch niches. The interior contains divided halls with timber framing. A coat-of-arms console occupies the north-west corner, adding another visible architectural detail. Enlarged windows recall the building’s later school phase. After renovation, Büchsenstadel became a municipal youth centre and also houses Radio free FM. Youth activities include games, tournaments, and cooking sessions. The centre provides space for young people to meet, learn, and take part in creative projects. Counselling and support are also available there. The building’s history links Ulm’s medieval storage, armament, education, radio, and youth work in one place.
