The Kapuzinerkirche in Überlingen began as part of a Capuchin monastery consecrated in 1658. Monks had established the monastery there in 1655.

After the Capuchins left in 1808, the former church entered a long period of secular use. From 1809, the building housed guests and spa-related facilities.

Most monastery buildings disappeared after 1825, while the church remained within the developing Badgarten park. People later used it as a stable, carriage shed, occasional accommodation, storage space and depot.

These changes removed its roof turret, stucco, vaulting and other visible signs of its ecclesiastical past. The city of Überlingen has owned the building since 1851.

Restoration began in 2002 to adapt the building for cultural events and gatherings. Sommertheater has used the venue since 2003.

Badgarten surrounds the Kapuzinerkirche with seasonal flower beds, protected old trees and views towards the lake and promenade. A plane tree, beech and giant sequoia stand among its notable trees.

The surviving building and garden connect monastic history with Überlingen’s spa culture and later cultural life. Its plain exterior conceals a place shaped by changing uses.
