The Kaiserbrunnen stands on Hofstatt, Überlingen’s central marketplace, directly in front of the town hall. The accessible fountain marks a historic place in Überlingen.

Today’s reconstruction has stood here since 1983, replacing earlier arrangements that included the Ratsbrunnen and a deep well. Its column and statue are both reconstructed replicas.

The life-sized figure presents Emperor Charles V in armour, wearing the imperial crown and Order of the Golden Fleece. He holds a sword and Überlingen’s coat of arms.

The monument recalls a Roland figure, while its original column carried the arms of Bohemia, the Palatinate, Saxony, and Brandenburg. The original statue is preserved in Überlingen’s city museum.

The fountain’s story reaches back to 1553, when the city created space opposite the town hall for this public monument. Hofstatt serves as a meeting place for residents and visitors.

Clear water sometimes attracts mallard ducks beside the fountain. Here, imperial symbolism, civic memory, and reconstructed sculpture share one accessible setting at Überlingen’s marketplace.

The Kaiserbrunnen links the town hall to local history.
