Santuario della Consolata stands in Italy as a sanctuary where medieval masonry, Roman remains, and baroque design meet. You can see the medieval bell tower and its small hanging arches above the later façade. The church rises over a basilica documented in the tenth century, beside Roman walls with a buried corner tower. Wheelchair access makes the layered interior available to visitors with mobility needs.

Growing devotion to the Virgin Consoler transformed the parish church into a sanctuary and drove successive enlargements. In 1678, Guarino Guarini reshaped the nave into an elliptical entrance hall and added a hexagonal chapel. Antonio Bertola completed that project in 1703, while Filippo Juvarra added the oval presbytery in 1729. Juvarra’s high altar gathers white-marble angels by Carlo Antonio Tantardini beneath the painting of the miraculous Virgin. The façade dates from 1860, and Carlo Ceppi’s elliptical neo-baroque chapels encircle the sanctuary from 1899 to 1904.

Inside, hundreds of painted ex-voto tablets preserve stories of illness, accidents, wars, rescues, and gratitude. One tablet recalls a heroic act during a fatal factory fire in 1852. Together, the altar, buried Roman trace, and intimate votive paintings connect monumental architecture with individual lives.
