Chiesa di San Tommaso is an eighteenth-century church in Italy with a compact, nearly central appearance. Its shortened nave gathers the interior into a concentrated architectural volume. The proportions of the facade, roofline, and openings reveal how urban remodelling altered the building.

Carlo Ceppi reshaped the church in 1897 to fit a reorganised street scheme. He shortened the nave, changing the interior from a longitudinal arrangement toward a central plan. That intervention also reduced the building’s apparent elevation and altered the rhythm of its windows. An eighteenth-century structure therefore carries a distinct late-nineteenth-century urban response.

Air raids on 13 July 1943 lightly damaged the roof covering and interior fittings. The neighbouring parish house also suffered damage, leaving wartime history alongside the altered roofline. Look closely at the shortened nave: it changes the rhythm connecting the windows and roof.
