Basilica di Maria Ausiliatrice rises in Valdocco with a restrained neo-Palladian façade and a dome crowned by Madonna. Camillo Boggio created the statue in 1867, giving the exterior a clear vertical focus.

Don Bosco began the basilica between 1865 and 1868, following Antonio Spezia’s design, and later enlargement shaped it between 1935 and 1938. Inside, a single nave carries multicoloured marble through the walls and chapels, while Giuseppe Rollini’s dome fresco depicts the glory of the Virgin. Tommaso Lorenzone’s 1868 painting of Maria Ausiliatrice hangs above the high altar, and the remains of Don Bosco, Maria Domenica Mazzarello, Domenico Savio, and other Salesian figures rest here.

Look upward from the nave: the painted dome and the Madonna above it connect colour with stone in one continuous view.
