Hölderlinturm rises beside the river, with yellow walls, a pointed roof, and an old willow casting shade. Built in the late eighteenth century, the tower stands on the remains of a city wall tower.

Friedrich Hölderlin lived here from 1807 until his death in 1843, cared for by the Zimmer family. His upstairs room became a secluded world where he wrote and often signed poems as “Scardanelli”. Across three floors, the museum presents his life, original texts, and the development of his late poetry. A language laboratory lets you experiment with verses, while the garden’s poetry path places his words along the walk.

Only one piece of his furniture survives: a simple wooden table marked by Hölderlin’s hand.
