Verdensteatret stands on Storgata in Norway, its façade combining Art Nouveau windows, classical columns, and Louis-Seize details. A mansard tower rises above the central section. Inside, a narrow corridor leads to the black-and-white-tiled Stenersenrommet and the auditorium beyond. The room retains much of its original character, although renewed seats and a covered orchestra pit now support a stage.

Sverre Mack painted five warm fresco panels there in 1921, each inspired by a Norwegian folk song. Their colours still frame the walls, while the historic interior calls for careful maintenance. The cinema opened in June 1916 with the city orchestra and a full house. Live music accompanied silent films before the first talkie changed the tempo in 1931. Preservation protection followed in 1994, and the film festival revitalised the building after quieter years from 2006.

Screenings use 35mm, 16mm, and digital formats, with silent-film days featuring live pianists. A foyer bar adds vinyl on weekdays and DJs at weekends, keeping shared screen culture close to everyday life.
