The Wasserturm rises above Petrisberg as a slender concrete landmark with a distinctly modern outline. Herbert Montebaur designed the tower as a postwar water-storage structure. Its elevated tank rests on slender concrete pillars, which make the heavy structure appear light. The tank once supplied barracks and surrounding districts. Water from the tower served Tarforst, Neu-Kürenz, and Olewig as the local supply network expanded. A spiral staircase winds upwards inside the tower. The staircase leads towards a glass viewing gallery positioned beneath the raised tank. Steel panels now replace the former honeycomb windows. Double concrete walls and thermal insulation protected the stored water from cold, heat, and sunlight. The tank also carried water high above the hillside. The Wasserturm’s futuristic, filigree design marked it as an architectural statement from the 1950s. Its protected landmark status recognises that distinctive design. Soft illumination outlines the Wasserturm across Petrisberg after dark, keeping its engineering visible in the skyline. The tower still connects water infrastructure with modern architecture.
