In Germany, the Liebfrauenbasilika rises as a Gothic church whose central form resembles a stone flower. It ranks among Germany’s oldest Gothic central-plan churches. French builders brought ideas from Champagne during construction in the early thirteenth century. Wheelchair access is listed among this spot’s properties.

Inside, twelve chapels spread around a cross-shaped centre, forming a rose dedicated to Mary. Each chapel forms one petal around the centre. Twelve slender columns represent the apostles beneath a vaulted ceiling decorated with lilies. Stained glass projects sacred scenes across stone and floor. A central tower rises above the crossing, now covered by a hipped roof instead of its former spire.

The building occupies an earlier sacred site, where French Gothic ideas shaped its unusual structure. Bombs severely damaged the church in 1944. The community rescued surviving fabric, and restoration during the 2000s renewed the rose’s balance of light and form. The west portal preserves carved rows of angels, bishops, musicians, and wise and foolish maidens. Mary holds the Christ Child at its centre. The bells and organ add sound to this carefully restored stone interior.
