Palatul Dicasterial stands in Timișoara’s historic core, extending along Eugeniu de Savoya, Mercy, and Augustin Pacha streets. Its Italian Renaissance façades echo Florence’s Medici Palace. Three interior courtyards divide the long building into a complex civic setting.

Construction ran from 1855 to 1860 on the site of an earlier administrative house for the region’s civil authorities. Count J. A. Coronini-Cronberg supported the project after public institutions faced high rents in private homes. Up to 600 workers operated an eight-horsepower steam engine, powering mortar machines, a circular saw, and two water pumps. At completion, 273 offices, 34 servants’ rooms, 34 kitchens, 65 cellars, and 27 warehouses surrounded those courtyards. The building later held a cigarette factory until an 1880 fire, then accommodated the post and telegraph office in 1898. Its legal role continues through the Timișoara Court, Tribunal, and Court of Appeal.
