The Catedrala Mitropolitană Ortodoxă rises above broad steps with colourful towers, a central dome, arches, and green brickwork. Glazed tiles add red, yellow, and blue across the roofline.

Built through the 1930s and 1940s, the cathedral combines Byzantine, Renaissance, Ottoman, and Romanian architectural elements. Local materials shaped its walls and monumental form.

Inside, a cross-shaped plan leads beneath star-patterned vaults, while light enters through tall windows and frames painted niches. Carved marble columns line the cathedral interior.

The gilded iconostasis, hand-carved chandeliers, and colourful mosaics connect Orthodox worship with Banat craftsmanship and regional carpet patterns. Wartime bombs damaged the cathedral without destroying it.

Below the cathedral, a crypt museum preserves rare church books, icons, sacred objects, and the relics of Joseph the New. Painted niches and carved doors reveal the cathedral’s craftsmanship.

The broad interior, gilded surfaces, and mosaic floors join Orthodox devotion with the cultural memory of the Banat. These details preserve faith, artistry, and historical memory.
