StadtPalais stands in Stuttgart’s Wilhelm Palais, the former residence of Württemberg’s last king, William II. The accessible museum traces the city’s history through architecture, social change, industry and everyday life. Inside, the ground floor combines a foyer, an event hall and a room for changing exhibitions.

The building gained its cultural role after extensive renovation freed the royal residence for public use. Its permanent exhibition, Stuttgarter Stadtgeschichten, follows Stuttgart from the late eighteenth century to the present. The upper floor adds exhibitions on urban history and architecture, keeping the building’s story in conversation with Stuttgart’s development.

On the garden floor, Stadtlabor gives children workshops and access to an outdoor area. A prototype Weissenhof chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe stands beside ballet slippers worn by Alicia Amatriain. Together, these objects bring Stuttgart’s architectural experiments and cultural life into one former royal residence.
