Stadtbad Heslach is a historic indoor swimming pool in Stuttgart, built between 1927 and 1929. Franz Cloos and Friedrich Fischle designed it in the New Objectivity style. Construction created a simple brick facade and a roof supported by nine reinforced-concrete arches. Horizontal bands of light mark the swimming hall roof. At completion, its 50-metre pool ranked as Germany’s largest indoor pool and could separate men’s and women’s areas. Renovation from 1989 to 1992 reshaped that pool. The building contains a 25-metre multipurpose pool, a non-swimmer pool, and a diving pool with one-metre and three-metre boards plus a five-metre platform. Historic changing cabins with built-in lockers survive beneath the swimming hall. Saunas and a Russian-Roman steam bath provide space for relaxation. Swimming lessons for children and adults, together with aqua fitness, add organised activities. An elevator, accessible changing rooms, showers, toilets, and a mobile pool lift support wheelchair users. Protected as a cultural monument, Stadtbad Heslach connects Stuttgart’s architectural history with swimming, diving, and sauna facilities.
