Schlossplatz is the largest square in Stuttgart Mitte and occupies a central position beside the Neues Schloss. Construction of the palace spanned 1746 to 1807. The grounds began as a military parade ground before becoming a public baroque park in the mid-nineteenth century. The shopping street Königstraße runs through the square. Karlsplatz lies south, while Schillerplatz stands southwest, connecting Schlossplatz with two neighbouring squares. The Jubilee Column rises at its centre, topped by Concordia.

The surrounding buildings include the Kunstmuseum, a glass cube illuminated at night, and the Kunstgebäude gallery. The Neues Schloss now houses Baden-Württemberg’s ministries for culture and treasury. War damage brought restoration to the Neues Schloss. A major renovation prepared the square for the Bundesgartenschau, while later work renewed its lawns and flowerbeds. Schlossplatz hosts open-air concerts, children’s fairs, and Christmas market sections. The square also hosted the United Buddy Bears exhibition and is surrounded by notable buildings. Several bus and underground lines stop directly at Schlossplatz.
