Église Catholique Saint-Jean-Baptiste stands in France with sturdy outer walls and a small, tall tower. Its stone exterior carries the weight of a building shaped by worship, war, and reconstruction.

The church began in the late fifteenth century as part of a convent. Air raids in August 1944 destroyed almost everything except the outer walls and bell tower. A provisional church served the community while the damaged building awaited reconstruction. Work resumed in the early 1960s, and worship returned to the rebuilt church in 1965.

Inside, a single wide nave and flat ceiling receive daylight through pairs of narrow windows. Faded frescoes remain on the eastern facade, while Werlé stained glass colours the stone with changing light. Curt Schwenkedel’s organ continues a musical tradition associated with Marie-Joseph Erb in the nineteenth century. Parish worship and the Jerusalem monastic fraternity still give the space its daily rhythm of liturgy, prayer, and reflection.
