Sommerhausen Town Hall stands at the heart of the walled old village, where Renaissance architecture shapes the centre. Its local shell-limestone walls support a three-storey stepped gable. Pointed arches open the ground floor towards the street, giving the solid two-storey building a public face. The building dates from the sixteenth century and reflects Renaissance civic architecture. The former trading floor now functions as a vestibule and event space, while restoration preserved the historic fabric. A heavy timber ceiling once covered commerce and community use. Upstairs, the civic hall occupies much of the plan, with a beamed ceiling resting on substantial supports. Restoration also revealed wall paintings beneath layers of whitewash. The adjoining council chamber retains wooden panelling, a ceiling, and simple Renaissance inlays from its earlier civic interiors. A historic council library preserves works from the sixteenth century. The town hall still serves municipal functions and hosts weddings, receptions, concerts, and readings in its rooms. Guided tours open the historic interiors to visitors.
