Ochsenfurter Tor stands at the edge of Sommerhausen’s historic village centre, near the castle in Germany. The main road passes through the gate towards Ochsenfurt. Its masonry belongs to a well-preserved defensive wall, while the former ditch is mostly filled in. A welsche hood crowns it, with a small bell.

This fortified entrance once controlled movement into and out of the settlement through one narrow passage. Until 1945, heavy oak wings closed the opening. Those wings held small pedestrian doors called Einschlupfpförtchen, allowing people to pass without opening the full gate. After the war, builders created openings on both sides for pedestrians. The surviving structure records a defensive role and a later adaptation to everyday movement.

The main road still carries vehicles and pedestrians through the passage beside the historic wall. Above it, the bell hangs beneath the hood.
