The Former Indian National Army Monument marks a historical site in Singapore connected with wartime memory and Indian independence.

The original memorial honoured the INA’s Unknown Warrior in Singapore.

Constructed during Japan’s occupation in 1945, the memorial received its foundation stone from Subhas Chandra Bose on 8 July.

Japanese forces erected it in August 1945, shortly before British forces recaptured Singapore.

The INA sought Indian independence from British rule and operated with Japanese support during World War II.

Colonel Cyril John Stracey designed the monument, whose inscription carried the INA motto: Unity, Faith and Sacrifice.

Lord Louis Mountbatten ordered the monument’s demolition after British forces regained control later in 1945.

The National Heritage Board recognized the site in 1995.

A plaque marks the place, connecting Singapore’s history with the INA, Japanese occupation, and India’s independence struggle.

The site is recorded as wheelchair accessible.
