Torre de la Plata stands in Seville as an octagonal military tower from thirteenth-century Almohad rule. Torre de la Plata translates from Spanish as Tower of Silver. The Almohad Caliphate built it within Seville’s defensive walls for military protection. The octagonal plan strengthened the tower against attacks. Its thick masonry supported defence, while the city wall connected it with Torre del Oro. Both towers guarded access from the Guadalquivir River. The river served as an important entry route to Seville, linking the defensive system with the city’s port. Later centuries changed the tower’s condition and role. Neglect allowed vegetation to cover the structure before restoration returned the monument to Seville’s historic landscape. Today, the tower preserves Seville’s Moorish heritage.
