Glorieta Covadonga forms a circular plaza inside Seville’s Parque de María Luisa, surrounded by varied trees. Four stone groups stand on pedestals, while benches trace the perimeter around this open setting. Washingtonia palms, bitter orange trees, acacias, privets, ash trees, and Virginia persimmon fill the planting.

The Ibero-American Exposition shaped the setting, with sculptures commissioned in 1913 and installed here in 1919. Lorenzo Coullaut-Valera created Art and Genius, while Manuel Delgado Brackenbury created Work and Science. Each group contains three figures, turning sculpture into symbols of art, knowledge, labour, and human achievement. In Art, a chisel, palette, brush, and capital identify sculpture, painting, and architecture.

A young man, Minerva, and crouching ignorance appear in Genius, while Work brings a cornucopia spilling fruit. Science pairs an older thinker with books and an observing woman. Pedro Sánchez Núñez added the surrounding benches in 1928, and the nearby Press Pavilion now serves as an educational centre. An orange fruit remaining on the Virginia persimmon after its leaves fall gives this plaza one memorable natural detail.
