Giardini A. Nobel surrounds Villa Nobel in Sanremo, Italy, where Mediterranean vegetation grows beside exotic botanical collections. Alfred Nobel designed these grounds after moving to Sanremo for health reasons in the late nineteenth century. He intended them for recreation, scientific experiments, and botanical collecting. The approximately six-thousand-square-metre site combines olive trees, pines, citrus plants, several palms, cacti, aloes, and a bamboo grove. Its layout reflects a period when Mediterranean species stood beside unusual imported plants.

Laboratories once operated there, linking Nobel’s research with the cultivation and study of rare species. This arrangement also preserved local vegetation while treating the collection as a living laboratory. A Senegal date palm, Phoenix reclinata, was planted around nineteen hundred and now has several trunks. Its girth reaches about eight metres, while its height approaches nineteen metres and its estimated age is 125 years. Some plants from the collection are used to decorate Nobel Prize ceremonies each year.
