Porta Fiorentina is a medieval gateway in Paciano, a small hilltown on the hills of Mount Petrarvella in Umbria. Stone buildings, cobbled lanes and wooded slopes surround the historic centre. The gateway forms part of fourteenth-century walls that enclosed the settlement and controlled access through narrow defensive passages.

Paciano developed as a fortified castello guarding the Perugian domain over the Chiugi territory. Eight towers and two other main gates, Porta Perugina and Porta Rastrella, complete the defensive circuit. Evidence of Etruscan habitation reaches back to the seventh century BCE, while the town’s present form reflects medieval development. Nearby, Chiesa di San Salvatore stands just outside the historic centre, with origins before the tenth century and a local legend linking it to a temple of Ceres.

Olive groves and woodland still frame the stone fortifications around Paciano. Walking beneath the gateway connects the narrow passage with the town’s medieval streets and its long agricultural tradition.
