St. Andreas stands above the narrow streets of Stadtamhof in Germany, marked by a Baroque tower and onion dome. Its onion dome defines the view above Stadtamhof. The church suffered near destruction in 1633, then remained in ruins for decades before reconstruction began. Relics of Saint Magnus marked the church’s renewal. Architect Andreas Pichelmeier rebuilt St. Andreas on its medieval foundations, shaping the present church in the early eighteenth century. The church was consecrated again in 1717. Inside, high windows illuminate a bright nave with pilasters, a delicate apse dome, and Baroque and Rococo decoration. High windows brighten the nave beneath a delicate apse dome. Frescoes, stucco, and carved wood include twenty-four choir-stall scenes depicting the visions of Saint Augustine. The rear gallery holds an organ case crowned by a life-sized King David. Behind its historic facade, a new instrument supports worship and the neighbouring college of church music. St. Andreas therefore joins architecture, religious history, and musical education within one church. Its painted surfaces and carved details reward close attention.
