The Regattahaus stands in Potsdam, on the grounds of the former Luftschiffhafen sports park, as a distinctive architectural landmark. The Regattahaus has three wooden storeys that taper upwards. Architect Reinhold Mohr designed the building, which was built in 1925 for visitors to the regatta course and nearby bathing facilities. It first served as an excursion restaurant. During rowing competitions, the Regattahaus served as an organisational centre, and later alterations expanded its economic spaces. The building later gained a two-storey summer hall. From the 1950s, athletes from Vorwärts Potsdam and Dynamo Potsdam used the site as a sports hostel. Its distinctive trapezoidal windows remain covered for interior protection. The building has stood under monument protection since 1995, without significant restoration work. The Regattahaus remains unused and vacant after its sports-hostel period. Together with the nearby music pavilion, it forms an ensemble associated with architecture from the Weimar Republic era. Localize Festival has also used the Regattahaus as a venue. Its history brings leisure, sport, military use, and ideological appropriation into one architectural story.
