Pförtnerhaus I marks the main entrance to Park Babelsberg in Potsdam, standing at the corner of Allee nach Glienicke and Karl-Marx-Straße. This gatehouse belongs to the historic architecture of the park.

Eduard Gebhardt designed the plastered building with assistance from architect Ludwig Persius between 1842 and 1843. Its plastered shape recalls a Norman castle in the Tudor style. The original building combined a guardhouse, a residence, and workspace for gatekeepers and park overseers. Park staff used it until the Second World War.

Its main-entrance position places the building beside the grounds of Park Babelsberg. English park design influenced these gatehouses around the park. Pförtnerhaus I forms part of the architectural setting that includes Park Babelsberg and Babelsberg Palace. Both belong to a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site is named Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin, placing this entrance building within a wider historic landscape. Its details combine plaster, Tudor references, and a castle-like form.
