Friedenskirche stands in the Marly Gardens within Sanssouci Park, where Potsdam’s architecture meets royal and religious history.\
The Protestant church follows an early Christian basilica in Rome.

Ludwig Persius designed the building, and Friedrich August Stüler completed it during the mid-nineteenth century.\
Three naves rise beneath a flat ceiling.

The central nave reaches thirteen and a half metres, while a separate belltower recalls Santa Maria in Cosmedin.\
The tower rises forty-two metres.

Inside, gold stars cover a blue coffered ceiling above an apse mosaic from early thirteenth-century Venice.\
The mosaic shows Christ enthroned with the Book of Life.

A canopy of Siberian jasper stands above the altar, while a courtyard holds a copy of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s Christ.\
An arcade surrounds the courtyard.

The church also contains a royal crypt for Frederick William IV and Elisabeth Ludovika of the Hohenzollern family.\
Four bells bear the names Gratia, Clementia, Pax and Gloria.

The adjacent Kaiser Friedrich Mausoleum has a dome and marble sarcophagi for Frederick III, Victoria and their sons.\
The surrounding Marly Gardens belong to a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
