The Igreja da Misericórdia stands on Rua das Flores in Porto, combining a sixteenth-century church with later architectural changes. Master builder Manuel Luís directed its original construction. The church was blessed in 1559, while its granite coffered barrel vault and finishing work followed over subsequent years. Its nave carries a granite coffered barrel vault. The main chapel followed between 1584 and 1590, with a design influenced by the Jerónimos Monastery and Vredeman de Vries. Nasoni reshaped the façade in the eighteenth century. Its collection includes the Flemish Renaissance painting Fons Vitae, showing Dom Manuel I and Queen Leonor before a fountain flowing with Christ’s blood. Rooms explore the Misericórdia, its benefactors, sacred art, Casa do Despacho, and administrative history. Together, church and museum connect Porto’s architecture, religious art, and social history.
