Häverner Marsch lies in Petershagen, Germany, within the Weser Valley’s natural landscape and the Weseraue bird protection area. The 104-hectare nature reserve contains six larger still waters. Gravel extraction created these waters, whose natural shorelines include shallow banks, peninsulas, and reed beds. The Rottbach stream and several ditches cross the marsh, while a former harbour basin connects with the Weser.

These linked habitats provide breeding, resting, moulting, and wintering grounds for wading and water birds throughout the year. Little ringed plovers, goldeneyes, and reed warblers occur among the recorded species. The connection with the neighbouring Weseraue nature reserve forms a core part of the European bird protection zone.

Observation huts stand in the northern section and beside the Weser near Döhren. Migratory and wintering birds gather in the southern marshes, visible from a resting place at Windheim’s northern edge.
