Emerenz Meier is a bronze bust beside the Danube in Bräugasse, Passau, near the former inn Zum Koppenjäger. Christine Wagner created the sculpture in 2008 to honour the Bavarian folk poet Emerenz Meier. The figure shows her from the head to just above the waist, wearing a ruffled blouse, fitted bodice, and traditional headscarf. Her wide-open eyes, round earrings, and restrained smile give the face a quiet, hopeful expression, while her gaze turns slightly west.

The bust stands on a rough Bavarian granite pedestal, making the monument two metres high altogether. Its westward orientation recalls Meier’s emigration to Chicago in 1906, while the stone preserves her connection with the Bavarian Forest. She worked as a landlady at the nearby inn before continuing her writing in the United States. Her poems and stories addressed rural life, social injustice, capitalism, and militarism with uncompromising criticism.

A plaque records Meier’s dates, 1874 to 1928, and another acknowledges the Soroptimist International Club Passau. Two nearby panels present a poem and biography in German and English. You can walk around the sculpture to see the inscription beneath her left hand and the long headscarf ends falling down her back.
