The Théâtre Marigny stands in Paris’s eighth arrondissement, near the junction of the Champs-Élysées and Avenue Marigny. The venue’s story includes a panorama, an operetta house, a cinema, and a smaller theatre.

Charles Garnier designed the original building for a panorama opened in 1883, before Édouard Niermans converted it into a theatre in 1894. That conversion made operetta a central part of its programme. Earlier, Salle Lacaze hosted Jacques Offenbach’s Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens, which became famous there in 1855. Offenbach built his reputation there as a theatre composer. In 1885, dioramas presented Paris through the ages and Jerusalem on the day of Christ’s death. Volterra enlarged and modernised the hall in 1925.

Later programmes included boulevard shows, musical revivals, and the 1936 revival of Offenbach’s La Créole. Barrault opened the Petit Marigny in 1954. After hosting the Renaud-Barrault company and becoming a cinema, the venue closed for renovations from 2013 to 2018. The reopened complex also welcomes historic Broadway performances.
