Rotonde de Chartres stands in Paris’s Parc Monceau, presenting a circular body beneath a dome and sixteen Doric columns. Claude-Nicolas Ledoux designed this neoclassical building in the late eighteenth century. Ledoux gave the structure a simple geometric form around its circular central space. Parisians also knew it as the Barrière de Chartres.

It belonged to the Fermiers généraux wall, a project that placed fifty-four tax barriers around Paris. This building did not regulate passage. The Ferme générale instead used its ground floor and first floor for administrative offices, while the upper terrace served the Duke of Orléans. He owned the surrounding garden at Parc Monceau.

Alterations came in 1861, changing the columns and dome but leaving the circular arrangement visible. Its historic monument classification dates from 24 April 1907. The surviving colonnade remains one of the few traces of the Fermiers généraux wall in Paris.
