The Hôtel Lambert stands at the eastern tip of the Île Saint-Louis in Paris, as a grand mansion of seventeenth-century architecture. Louis Le Vau designed it for financier Jean-Baptiste Lambert between 1640 and 1644.

His brother Nicolas Lambert continued the project, which developed into a coherent setting for architecture and decorative painting. Charles Le Brun, François Perrier, and Eustache Le Sueur contributed to its painted interiors.

The Galerie d’Hercule and Cabinet des Muses present allegorical themes of love and marriage within the mansion’s interior. The Hôtel Lambert name later identified the Polish political faction.

In the nineteenth century, the mansion became a political and cultural centre for Polish exiles under Prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski. Frédéric Chopin, George Sand, and Honoré de Balzac were among its notable guests.

During the twentieth century, the building was divided into luxury apartments and housed Michèle Morgan and Baron Alexis von Rosenberg. A fire in 2013 led to significant restoration work.

The Hôtel Lambert brings together Louis Le Vau’s design, French decorative painting, and the political history of Polish exile in Paris.
