Église Notre-Dame de Bercy stands in Paris’s twelfth arrondissement, as a Catholic church shaped by repeated rebuilding. Its recorded story reaches back to the seventeenth century. Fathers of Christian doctrine first built the church, which later served merchants and workers in Bercy’s wine warehouses. War, fire, flood, and demolition repeatedly altered its history. Demolished after deterioration, the church was rebuilt under André Chatillon before destruction during the Paris Commune uprising. Architect Antoine-Julien Hénard rebuilt the church again.

The design follows ancient Roman basilicas, with a main nave, side naves, projecting transepts, and a classical porch. Columns and a pediment define the classical façade. Byzantine-inspired motifs decorate the apse, while sculptures of Saint Peter and Saint Paul stand on the façade. Seventeenth- and eighteenth-century religious paintings fill the interior. Works include Jesus and the Samaritan Woman by Jacques Stella, The Nativity from the Flemish School, and a statue of Émilion de Combes. The Stolz & Frères organ dates from around 1880.
