Adolphe Chérioux belongs to the civic history of Paris’s fifteenth arrondissement, where Saint-Lambert shaped his public life. Born in Vaugirard in 1857, he served as the district’s municipal councillor for nearly forty years. He also presided over the Paris municipal council from 1908 to 1909. His work joined education with urban planning, linking local government to schools, children, transport and the city’s changing edges.

As president of the third commission at the Hôtel de Ville, he helped extend the metro to Porte de Versailles. He also supported the dismantling of fortifications in his district and founded the departmental orphanage at Vitry-sur-Seine. In 1905, he became one of six vice-presidents of the Republican, Radical and Radical-Socialist Party’s executive committee. Paris preserves his memory through Place Adolphe-Chérioux, beside the arrondissement town hall, and the adjoining Adolphe-et-Jean-Chérioux park. Line 12 reaches Vaugirard–Adolphe Chérioux, while Issy-les-Moulineaux has a street bearing his name. At Vitry-sur-Seine, the former orphanage became a departmental school, and a 36-hectare estate along the D7 also carries that connection.
