Plaça de Cort occupies central Palma, Mallorca, where historic streets, civic buildings, cafés, and terraces meet. The square forms part of Palma’s old town.

Palma Town Hall anchors the space with a façade built through phases from 1649 to the nineteenth century. Baroque and Mannerist details shape its traditional Mallorcan manor-house appearance. Since 1249, jurats met here at the former Hospital de Sant Andreu, founded by Nuno Sanç in 1230. The surrounding institutions later made this area a centre of civic life. Carrer de Colom expanded the square in 1865, while the central block disappeared in 1922.

A transplanted olive tree has stood near the centre since 1989. The tree came from Pedruixella Petit in Pollença and weighs about four tonnes. People look for shapes in its trunk, including the “orella de Mallorca”, or ear of Mallorca. The square also marks kilometre zero for Mallorca’s main roads. Its Town Hall façade, dragon, snail, distinctive clock, and named bench give the setting details to seek among the surrounding streets.
