Oratori de Sant Feliu stands in Palma, Mallorca, as one of the city’s oldest oratories. Built in the thirteenth century, the former church follows Cistercian principles of simplicity and restraint. High Gothic arches, decorated columns, stained glass, and an original altar shape the interior. A Renaissance doorway, added in the sixteenth century, contrasts with the building’s earlier Gothic structure.

The abbot of Sant Feliu de Guíxols commissioned the chapel soon after the Catalan conquest of Mallorca. Devotional worship filled the space for centuries, while local noble families later connected it with burial traditions. A tombstone from 1753 commemorates Thomas Burguéz, owner of the chapel and nearby Can Quint Zaforteza. Contemporary art now occupies the former religious setting, where exhibitions place new work against medieval architecture.

Sandra Vásquez de la Horra’s exhibition El Ojo Interior brought El Manto de Obatalá to the wall behind the altar. The installation uses 200 ceramic plates, including hand-painted pieces, to explore life, suffering, and mortality. Twenty-one ceramic eyes rest on a scale, evoking justice through Yoruba references to Changó and Eleguá. Here, a solemn Gothic interior holds a striking conversation between memory, faith, and contemporary art.
