Nr. 20: Gammel kvinne legger hånden på ung kvinnes hode is a granite statue by Gustav Vigeland in Oslo’s Frognerparken. The older woman rests one hand on the younger woman’s head, creating a quiet scene of contact between generations.

The sculpture belongs to the Vigeland installation, where figures follow a central axis through an open park setting. Vigeland developed the ensemble around human relationships, emotions, and the stages of life. Granite groups surround the Monolith, a towering column carved from one block of stone. Iddefjorden supplied the granite, while craftsmen shaped the large figures under Vigeland’s direction.

Wrought-iron gates and a low granite balustrade frame the Monolith Plateau. Alongside granite, the wider installation includes bronze and wrought iron, giving the park several contrasting textures. Here, a hand placed gently on a head holds the scene together.
