Chateau Neuf stands in Oslo, just south of the University of Oslo’s main campus at Blindern. The modern building houses the Norwegian Students’ Society, with cafés, bars, performance venues, and rooms for student activities.

Architects Kjell Lund and Nils Slaatto designed the building, whose construction finished in 1971 and official opening followed in 1973. Its spaces host concerts, theatre, debates, lectures, parties, and cultural festivals, including Peter Gabriel’s performance in August 1978 and T. Rex’s January 1972 concert, later released as a live album. The society itself dates back to 1813 and was dissolved during the German occupation before returning after 1945.

Look for the society’s crest and mascot, “His Majesty the Pig,” a playful symbol that appears throughout the building.
