Nikolausturm is a slender, round tower within Ochsenfurt’s medieval city fortifications in Germany. It stands beside the Dicker Turm at the southwestern corner of the city wall. Together, both towers form part of a largely preserved defensive system with walls, ramparts, a moat, gates, and additional towers.

Early fourteenth-century construction gives the stonework more than six centuries of history. In 1505, the tower gained two further floors during an improvement of the city’s defenses. Roof repairs in 1613 revealed artifacts from its original construction inside the gable finial. Its few openings, thick walls, and difficult outside access suited its role as a secure gunpowder store.

A ladder once provided the only external entrance, while the walls were considered strong enough to withstand cannon fire. French troops shelled the Nikolausturm and Dicker Turm during the Seven Years’ War, yet the round tower survived. Visible cannonball scars remain on the masonry, alongside the pointed roof and compact openings that still show its defensive purpose.
