Dicker Turm stands at the southwestern corner of Ochsenfurt’s outer city wall in Germany. Built in 1712, the battery tower formed part of a fortification system with walls, ramparts, moats, gates, and neighbouring towers.

Deep vaulted chambers lie below the structure, reached by a staircase, and once stored gunpowder and other munitions. During the Seven Years’ War, the tower also served as a prison, while cannon fire left visible marks on its exterior. Near the entrance, traces of a rotating food-passing device preserve one small detail of that former use.

Nikolausturm stands beside it, while Pulverturm served a similar military purpose within Ochsenfurt’s fortifications. Together, these structures show how defence shaped the city’s layout from the fourteenth century onward.
