1\. Artikel der Menschenrechte stands in Nuremberg between the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and the medieval city wall. Dani Karavan created this outdoor artwork.

The installation connects Kornmarktstraße with the old city gate through a monumental axis. Thirty columns define the route. Twenty-seven white concrete pillars rise eight metres, while two buried pillars appear only as round plates. A columnar oak completes the arrangement. Each pillar carries one article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in German and another language.

A northern gate mirrors the medieval gate at the southern end of the street. Monastery remains, Sep Ruf buildings, and a glass entrance designed in 1993 surround the route. The artwork grew from a 1988 competition judged by a twelve-person jury. The International Nuremberg Human Rights Award is presented here, linking the site to the city’s commitment to peace and human rights.
