His later work helped establish the French Constitutional Laws of 1875, while his speeches made him a powerful republican voice.

Born in Cahors in 1838, Gambetta lost sight in his right eye after an accident at fifteen. His political career also took him through a Paris law practice, the Conférence Molé and elections in Marseille. He died on 31 December 1882, leaving this memorial tied to the speeches, crises and institutions that shaped modern republican France.
