Petruskirche stands in Neu-Ulm as a nineteenth-century church with Neo-Gothic forms and visible brickwork. Georg von Stengel designed its cross-shaped central plan. It originally served as the Evangelical City Parish Church before receiving the name Petruskirche. That name distinguishes it from another local church. Outside, a prominent tower rises beneath a copper-plated spire, while a clock carries gilded hands. Slate tiles cover the entire main building’s roof. Inside, the rib-vaulted main hall combines natural wood with semi-circular seating around Karlheinz Hoffmann’s altar island. Hoffmann’s altar island received an award for its design. Bronze reliefs by Günther Späth decorate the doors with scenes from the life of Apostle Peter. Those reliefs connect scenes of Peter’s life with themes of faith and ethics. Later renovations reshaped the interior, added entrances, and created a basement with modern amenities. These changes place historic brick construction beside a more community-focused interior. Neu-Ulm’s Petruskirche brings architecture, sculpture, and interior design together within one documented church building.
