Caponniere 8 stands in Neu-Ulm as part of the Bundesfestung Ulm, a nineteenth-century defensive complex. Its defensive position faces the city from the southwest.

Built between 1844 and 1850 under Oberleutnant Graf von Ysenburg, the structure combines a wall, escarp, and central caponniere. Flanking batteries strengthen the central defensive position there. Visible brick rises above a stone base, while recessed tenailles support the flanking batteries. The design favours military function and durability.

A pedestrian bridge joined the fortification in 1896, and urban development later altered parts of the site. Formal monument protection began at the site in 1973. The Naturfreunde group uses the preserved structure today, following earlier roles in civil defence and commerce. World War II brought a civil defence use.
