PRINZREGENT LUITPOLD KANONIERE preserves a chapter of Munich’s military history through the Bavarian Army’s artillery tradition. Established on 11 October 1824, the regiment initially served with the First Division, while Munich provided its peacetime base.

Prince Luitpold of Bavaria became its first regimental owner on 1 November 1839, giving the unit the name it carried with honour. During the First World War, the artillery served with the First Infantry Division and the Sixth Army on the Western Front, sharing the division’s campaigns and hardships. After returning to Munich on 22 December 1918, it was demobilised and dissolved, while successor batteries preserved its traditions.

Music adds another detail to this military legacy: regimental marches included the Parademarsch der Königl. Bayer. Grenadier Garde by Wilhelm Legrand, alongside works by Julius Möllendorf and Albert Lorenz.
