Prinz-Carl-Palais stands in Munich as an early neoclassical mansion designed by the young architect Karl von Fischer. Its construction ran from 1804 to 1806.

The building was created for Abbé Pierre de Salabert, who had taught King Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria. Its portico and Ionic pilasters give the façade its neoclassical character.

After Salabert’s death in 1807, King Maximilian I Joseph acquired the mansion for the Bavarian monarchy. King Ludwig I later gave it to his brother, Prince Carl, in 1825.

Jean-Baptiste Métevier and Anton Schwanthaler shaped the interior during Prince Carl’s ownership. Their work added detail to the palace’s historic rooms.

After Prince Carl’s death, the palace hosted Austria-Hungary’s diplomatic mission from 1876. In 1924, it became the official residence of Bavaria’s prime ministers.

Today, state receptions take place at the Prinz-Carl-Palais, connecting its public role with Munich’s architectural history. The building preserves a record of royal ownership, diplomatic use and Bavarian government.
