Pfistermühle stands in Munich’s old town as a historic building shaped by milling, baking, war, and restoration. Its original purpose connected grain milling and baking with the Hofpfisterei. Before its present location, the building stood at the northeast corner of the Alte Hof as the Torantsmühle, later called Hofmühle. A fire in 1578 led to its relocation across the Pfisterbach. That stream once powered the mill and followed the course of what is now Sparkassenstraße through Munich’s old town. The surviving structure has three stories and a distinctive hipped roof. World War Two left only the outer walls, a ground-floor vault, and a stone staircase to the upper floor. Restoration returned the building to use as a bakery by 1948. After its sale in 1958 and the Hofpfisterei’s move in 1964, the remaining part became a restaurant serving elevated Bavarian cuisine. Its original appearance returned through restoration in 1987 and 1988. Today, the restaurant combines traditional Bavarian flavours with modern culinary techniques and uses local Bavarian ingredients. Climbing plants cover the northeast and northwest façades.
