The Pestsäule stands in Fürstenried, Munich, as a historical monument and a Bavarian Bildstock, or wayside shrine. Its name suggests plague, but historical records provide no connection with a plague event.

Late Gothic design gives the monument a square, sturdy base and a projecting upper section beneath a tiled gabled roof. Green space surrounds the monument between Fürstenried-Ost and Olympiastraße. St Karl Borromäus Church and Fürstenried Palace stand nearby, each roughly two hundred metres from the shrine. Its green setting offers a quiet pause amid Munich’s city life.

On its north side, a niche holds an image of the Virgin Mary. Below it, a grated base niche contains a crucifix with Christ’s body painted on a wooden cross. A restoration in 1906 helped preserve these details. On the south side, a wooden plaque carries an inscription, while the monument’s original purpose remains unrecorded. The projecting top completes its distinctive late Gothic silhouette.
